MAAR’s Mission for Hope is San Antonio's first 501(c)3 organization, devoted to helping teachers. Apart from parents and guardians, children look to their teachers for guidance, knowledge, and values. Our mission is to provide teachers with the resources, the supplies, and the support they need in the classroom. With an increasing number of students, lack of funding, and an alarming rate of teachers leaving the profession, it has become a challenge for teachers to effectively impact student lives and education. On average, teacher’s in Texas spend $650 a year out of their pocket on supplies for their classroom without being reimbursed on top of their rigorous schedule. Did you know that an effectively supported teacher can increase a student’s overall success in education and future endeavors? In addition, students are twenty times more likely to pass tests and more likely to attend college when a teacher has the resources they need. We plan to dedicate, focus, and actively work one on one with all educators in San Antonio. Together we hope to improve their work environment and raise student statistics to create a better future. Above all, we hope to encourage teachers with renewed spirits by providing them with supplies and easy access to resources, in and outside the classroom, throughout the school year while showing them how much our community supports them.
Each year Mission For Hope plans to hold a one huge teacher supply drive & networking fundraiser. This event will be open to educators in the San Antonio area providing them with an opportunity to get the supplies they may need at the beginning of the school year as well as an opportunity to network with other organizations and teachers. Mission For Hope plans to start other initiatives such as help with setting up and taking down teacher classrooms. Lastly, during the holidays, Mission For Hope has "The Teaching Tree" initiative which is where teachers can send in their holiday classroom wishlist and our community can help sponsor a wishlist for the Holiday! Our nonprofit strives to provide everything from books to scissors, office supplies to jackets, and kleenex’s to personal hygiene items for teachers and therefore their students. We will also provide teachers with access to new ideas for art projects, learning plans, & classroom essentials. We hope to offer more as we continue to grow and dig deeper into the surface that is Mission For Hope!
To ensure the future of Mission For Hope, we plan to have multiple fundraising events including an annual fundraiser & market day, bi-annual raffle &/or silent auctions, & more. We will also sell items year around such as shirts, accessories, seasonal items, & more. Our goal is to inform more people each year of the trials & tribulations that teachers go through, how important they are to students futures, and gain their support. We hope to raise a minimum of $25,000 a year with hopes that we will average more than our projected goal. We hope to use our funds to get teachers everything they need throughout the school year so that they can not only focus and succeed in their career, but most importantly, help their students succeed in life.
Our First Year In Action
Mission For Hope was founded in October of 2015, however, our first year in action was not until the 2017-2018 school year! With the help of our supporters & fellow teachers that donated their unused supplies, Mission For Hope gave out over 2,500 supplies & fed over 300 teachers! In addition, our first teacher supply drive was featured on 4 local news stations & participated in The Big Give SA event. We were so overwhelmed by the support not only from our community, but most importantly the teaching community, that we quickly had to upgrade our storage facility to accommodate incoming donations & event space to host our drive!
Meet The Founder
The idea of Mission For Hope was created in early 2014 by our founder and executive director, Ashley Faz. She was raised from a family that made giving back to our community and spreading love their priority. She knew as a young girl she wanted to have her own nonprofit to continue to help out our community but never knew how or for what. When she went shopping with her good friend, whom was a first time teacher, and saw the out of pocket cost she faced, she immediately knew what that calling was! Ashley formed Mission For Hope as a nonprofit in 2015 and then certified it as a 501c3 nonprofit by the IRS in April of 2017! Our first school year in action was the 2017-18 school year in which we met with just over 120 teachers at our first teacher supply drive. Since then, we have quadrupled in attendance and are still growing! We are eager to be the driving force in teacher support here in San Antonio by providing you all with the supplies and resources needed in the classroom for free! Our sights are set high and we have barely scratched the surface! To this day, Mission For Hope is run by the family of MAAR’s Pizza with the help of local tachers and their customers being their biggest advocates!!!
